Duties and Responsibilities:

Dental laboratory Technicians specialize in different areas of dental and orthodontic work. Their jobs usually include making and repairing dentures, crowns, and braces. They work in dental schools, commercial dental laboratories, hospitals, dental clinics, and for manufactures of dental prostheses. Dental laboratory technician:

•                    Repair denture lining

•                    Repair Choose and mount replacement teeth.

•                    Construct denture frames

•                    Identify needed prosthesis repairs.

•                    Make and fix braces.

•                    Cast plaster dental molds.

•                    Clean and polish prostheses.

Average Salary: $22,000-$33,000

Educational Requirements:

Dental Laboratory technicians must have a high school diploma or GED certificate before starting dental laboratory training.

 Dental laboratory technicians must attend a community college, vocational school, or dental school to learn their skills. Programs are usually two years in length.

                           I have been biking for over 3 year. I like to ride a bike because                                                                  sometimes whens there's traffic I go through the middle of the cars.                                                                I like to ride a bike because if the street are closed for cars you could                                                            get on the sidewalk so you wont have to go around. Sometimes is better to                                                    ride a bike because you wont be late to work because yours stuck in traffic.                                                  Bikes are not always safe because u could get hit buy a car but I like to ride                                                  a bike because i get to go to places with my friends.

My experience at hpiam is good so far.  I have met new people and the teachers have been nice to me and the teachers are not as mean as last year.  Last year some students talked back to the teacher and made all of us stay for nutrition, lunch or afterschool. This school has a good library not like my other school they were disorganized and the school already had graffiti. This school is clean and I have not seen graffiti on the restrooms and neither on the wall. I also like this school because the principle is nice and this school is more organized than my other school. Also because teachers help u accomplish your goals and they give u detention when u come late and I used to go late to my other school sometimes but since this schools gives detention I come early and my teacher do teach a lot because the teacher form last year did teach but not as much as this year. The staff on this school help us and am grateful to be in this school because I heard that Huntington [park high school is bad and Libra academy is strict and that social justice is a good school to but am happy to be in this school because a lot of people wanted to come here but this school has been the best school I have gone and the only school that has help me improve. This school has been good to because they have taught me not give up and to keep on going and people at hpiam are friendly not like my other school some were bullies and other were trouble makers .A lot of people say that they don’t like this school but am happy that I came to this school.

                  Dental Hygienist                                Duties and Responsibilities:

       Dental hygienists provide preventive treatment for oral health problems .They also educate patients and promote dental health .They may be employed in health departments , nursing homes, hospitals , dental schools ,or school districts , but usually they work in private dental offices and clinics , Dental hygienists:

·            Screen patients for dentist

·         Take and develop radiographs.

·         Apply preventive treatments to teeth.

·         Counsel patients on oral health and teach them appropriate dental health procedures.

·         Perform dental office management duties.

Average salary: $22,000-$35,000

Educational Requirements:

       Dental hygienists must have a high school diploma or GED certificate before participating in dental hygiene education programs.

      Dental hygienists usually earn an Associate’s Degree at a community college or private school. To practice, they must also earn a license by passing the dental Hygiene National Board examination.

     Some hygienists earn Bachelor’s or Master’s Degrees if they want to teach , do research , or broaden their scope into public health issues

               Dental Assistant          

  Duties and responsibilities:                                                                                                                                               

      Dental assistants help dentist provide dental care. They often work in teams with dental hygienists and laboratory technicians. They may work in health clinics, dental schools, nursing homes, and the military, but usually they work for dentist in private practice. Dental assistant duties include:

·          Helping patients feel comfortable during treatment.

·          Taking and developing dental x-rays.

·          Taking medical histories for patients.

·          Sterilizing and preparing dental instruments and equipment.

·          Instructing patients about dental health care to include brushing and flossing.

·          Performing office management tasks.

Average salary: $14,000-$25,000

Educational Requirements:

     Dental assistants must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

They must receive additional training at a community college, vocational school, or dental school to learn their skill. Length of programs varies between six months and one year. To become certified, dental assistants must pass an examination from the Dental Assisting National Board.
