             Cytotechnologist                     (Cytology)                                                                                                                Duties and Responsibilities:                                                                                                                                                        Cytology is the study of human body cells. Cytotechnogist are specially trained clinical technologists who study human’s body cell. They examine cells to identify changes that indicate disease like cancer.
Their duties include preparing microscope slides of cell samples using microscope, identifying, abnormalities in shape, size color, using other automated lab equipment to perform test, and analyzing report test results to physicians.  
Cytotechnologist usually works in hospitals, clinics, or private laboratories. They also work in universities or for the researchers
Average Salary: $30,000-$50,000
Educational Requirements:

Students should take the most challenging high school courses in science, math, English.
Almost all cytotechnologist earn bachelor’s degrees in medical or clinical technology programs that include a year-long clinical internship in the field..

They work with patients to help them become self-sufficient and productive. Counselors often work closely with their patients’ doctors and family. Counselor may work in private practice, for schools, industry, or in hospital or residential health care settings. Counselors often:
·         Work with patients who abuse alcohol or are addicted to drugs.
·         Interview and observe patients to determine problem areas
·         Conduct personality, aptitude, achievement, and psychological test
·         Help patients find and keep jobs

Educational requirements:
 Students interested in becoming counselors should take a challenging high school curriculum.

To become licensed by a state, counselors must pass written and oral examinations and work for about 2 years in a supervised clinical settings.

Student should take high school courses in business, information management, science, math, English.
Coding specialist must have a high school diploma or GED certificate. Training is usually conducted on the job, but classes are offered at the technical schools and community colleges. To become certified, specialist must pass an examination. Accredited record technicians must earn an associate’s degree from an accredited college program or from the American Health Information Management Association Independent Study Program, Additionally, they must pass a credentialing examination.

Health information specialist obtains, post, and analyzes medical, workload, finance, and insurance data. They ensure that this information is properly recorded into medical records so practitioners can plan and evaluate health care provide to patients.
There are a variety of job specialties within this field including Registered Record Administration, Accredited Record Technicians, and certified Coding Specialist. Administrators coordinate the various information management responsibilities and supervise record technicians and coding specialist. Record technicians ensure medical records are accurate, coordinate reimbursement, and maintain disease registries for research. Coding specialist assign and post correct diagnosis and procedure codes to records and repost codes to insurance companies.

Clinical technologists perform more complex laboratory test and procedures than technicians. They also supervise technicians, confirm their test, and manage laboratory quality control programs.
Most clinical laboratory specialists work in hospitals, but they are also employed by private practices, medical groups, research laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and universities.
Average salary: $20,000 – $28,000 (clinical laboratory technicians)
$25,000 – $40,000 (clinical technologist)
Educational Requirements:
Students should take the most challenging high school courses in, science, math, and English.
An associate’s degree in the field or program of a specialized in-house training program is required to become a clinical laboratory technician.
A bachelor’s degree in the field is normally required to become a clinical technologist; however some employers accept an associate’s degree and extensive clinical experience as a substitute. Many technologists pursue additional graduated education or specialized training to advance their careers in clinical chemistry, blood, banking and microbiology.

These professions are also referred to as medical laboratory technicians or medical technologist.                                                                                       
  
Both Technicians and technologists perform laboratory work to identify, diagnosed, and treat diseases                                                                                           

Clinical Laboratory technicians use microscopes, laboratory equipment, chemical and computers to perform laboratory procedures. They also collect blood specimens and prepare culture media. They conduct tests and prepare reports for clinical technologists or physicians.

Biomedical equipment technicians inspect, maintain, and repair different types of medical equipment used to diagnose and treat disease. They perform safety checks and train practitioners to safely operate equipment. Biomedical equipment technology has been one of the fastest growing medical career fields in recent years.

Average Salary: $20,000-$38,000

Educational Requirements:
Students should take challenging science, math, and electronics course in high school.

Following high school, biomedical equipment technicians complete one to three years of course work in biomedical equipment technology, medical-electronics, or biomedical engineering. Most programs lead to certification and/or associate degrees. Some employers will hire electronics technicians and provide on-the-job biomedical technology training.
